About this laboratory

The Rehabilitation & Mobility Laboratory at UR-CEBE provides dedicated spaces for students and researchers to engage with assistive device fabrication, prosthetics and orthotics design, and telerehabilitation technologies.

Equipped with specialist tools for draping, lamination, machining and remote therapy delivery, the lab supports competency-based learning aligned with clinical practice standards. It serves as a bridge between engineering innovation and direct patient-centred rehabilitation care.

Lab Spaces

A walk through the workstations that take a device from cast and lamination, through machining and finishing, to alignment, fitting and follow-up care.

Draping & Lamination Laboratory

Hands-on training in fabric preparation, lamination techniques and material finishing processes essential to prosthetic and orthotic fabrication.

Casting & Vacuum Forming Bay

Socket casting stations with vacuum pumps, fume extraction hoods and adjustable moulding stands used to form and cure resin sockets under controlled conditions.

Fabrication Workbenches

Individual student stations fitted with bench drills, vices, precision hand tools and pegboard tool walls for component preparation and assembly practice.

Alignment & Assembly Station

Alignment jigs and assembly frames for setting up lower-limb prostheses, allowing students to adjust static alignment before dynamic fitting and gait trials.

Grinding & Finishing Room

Bench grinders, sanding units and routers connected to dust extraction, used for shaping, trimming and finishing sockets and orthotic components safely.

Telerehabilitation Setup

Remote delivery of therapeutic services, patient monitoring and rehabilitation training using digital technologies — extending care beyond the clinic.
