Overview
The University of Rwanda – Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering and eHealth (UR-CEBE) delivers measurable impact through innovation, research excellence, and community engagement. CEBE graduates, staff, and institutional programs continuously transform healthcare challenges into sustainable technological solutions. CEBE has achieved major successes in Human Capital Development (HCD), Infrastructure, and Research & Innovation.
In Infrastructure Development, a seven-story, state-of-the-art CEBE building was constructed at Kigali Innovation City, equipped with advanced laboratories and facilities for 824 users.
In HCD, as of 2025, more than 620 professionals from the three main thematic areas — Biomedical Engineering, eHealth (Health Informatics), and Rehabilitation & Mobility Sciences — were trained through Advanced Professional Courses (APCs), MSc, PhD, and Postdoc programmes. About 84% of graduates are serving in Rwanda's healthcare and academic sectors.
In Research & Innovation, solutions include smartphone-based diabetes self-management tools, inclusion app platforms, rehabilitation technologies, and data science training for health — all strengthening Rwanda's healthcare and innovation ecosystem.
