The aim of this workshop is to enable participants to use the electronic ICD-11 coding tool to convert diagnostic statements into ICD-11 codes; follow the rules and guidelines for quality medical documentation; contribute to strengthening the quality of ICD-11-coded morbidity data; build the knowledge and skills needed to train others; and become familiar with new concepts in ICD-11 such as the Foundation, URIs and the ICD API.
The workshop is conducted in person using interactive learning, teamwork and problem-solving, including hands-on use of the ICD-11 Coding Tool and the ICD-FIT platform. It targets clinical coders, data managers, M&E officers, physicians and nurses from the Ministry of Health, best-performing health facilities, the University of Rwanda, the WHO-FIC reference groups, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, the National Identification Agency and WHO.
Expected deliverables include a certified national master-trainer cohort, a standardised ICD-11 training package (slides, videos, job aids) and a national supervision checklist for ICD-11 coding quality.
