Rwanda WHO Collaborating Centre for the Family of International Classifications .
The WHO Collaborating Centre for the Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC) Rwanda is hosted by the University of Rwanda through the Regional Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering and eHealth (CEBE). Designated by the World Health Organization in 2025, the Centre became the second WHO-FIC Collaborating centre in Africa and joined a global network of institutions supporting the advancement and application of international health classifications and information standards.
The Centre serves as a regional hub for expertise, collaboration, and innovation in health information and classification systems. Drawing on Rwanda’s experience in digital health transformation and health system strengthening, it brings together multidisciplinary expertise from academia, government, healthcare institutions, and international partners to address emerging challenges in health data, measurement, and reporting.
Through research, technical collaboration, and capacity development, the Centre contributes to national, regional, and global efforts to improve the quality, comparability, and use of health information. By promoting internationally harmonized approaches to health data, the Centre supports evidence-informed decision-making, strengthens health system performance, and contributes to improved population health outcomes.
As part of the global WHO-FIC Network, the Centre remains committed to supporting the World Health Organization and Member States in advancing the use of high-quality health information for better healthcare, stronger health systems, and improved population health.
