Comprehensive capacity-building programs in data science and research across Rwanda.
From intensive bootcamps to international consortium meetings — building capacity at every level.
The Stakeholder Engagement, Recognition, and Research Dissemination Event celebrated the achievements of DST-HIRWA and SYNAPSE, recognizing program beneficiaries and showcasing research findings, innovations, and lessons learned. The event brought together stakeholders from academia, research, policy, and the health sector to exchange knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and explore opportunities for future collaboration, institutionalization, and sustainability. Through research dissemination and recognition of trainees’ achievements, DST-HIRWA and SYNAPSE continue to strengthen capacity in data science for health and contribute to Rwanda’s growing health research ecosystem. Celebrating progress. Sharing evidence. Building sustainable partnerships for the future of health data science.
The DST-HIRWA and SYNAPSE Datathon brought together trainees, trainers, mentors, and project teams to showcase data science work, share emerging research findings, and exchange technical insights. The session fostered peer learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and constructive feedback to strengthen the quality, relevance, and impact of data science research for health in Rwanda. Participants also reflected on lessons learned and explored opportunities to improve the Datathon’s future direction, sustainability, and contribution to Rwanda’s health data science ecosystem. Together, we are turning data into evidence and evidence into better health outcomes.
The project team convened to review and evaluate the progress of planned project activities, with particular attention to activities approaching their implementation deadlines. The meeting also focused on preparations for the upcoming Stakeholder Engagement, Graduation, and Dissemination Event to ensure successful coordination and delivery of the planned activities.
The DST-HIRWA & SYNAPSE Projects held a research progress review for fellows and trainees to present updates, receive feedback, and enhance collaboration. Coordinators emphasized research quality, professionalism, commitment, and continuous communication throughout the fellowship.
The documentation initiative captures DST-HIRWA experiences, achievements, impacts, and lessons, preserving institutional memory, informing policy, enhancing accountability, and promoting partnerships through structured outputs including films, clips, articles, and archived materials.
Annual gathering of the Data Science for Health Discovery and Innovation in Africa (DS-I Africa) consortium, bringing together researchers, funders, and partners to share progress, discuss challenges, and plan collaborative research initiatives.
